What is a forklift and what is it good for?

Forklift, porter, stacker, fork stacker… Even though they have different pronunciations as words, they are the same in meaning. Before moving on to the definition of forklift, let's take a look at its origin as a word. Forklift is an English word consisting of the words “fork” meaning fork and “lift” meaning lever. As in most English words, the Turkish meaning of the word forklift can correspond to more than one meaning, which we can define as fork lift, fork lift, fork stacker. Although we may have known this concept in the last 20s and 30s, the history of forklift actually dates back to the 1800s. Let's start with the definition of what is a forklift… A forklift is a construction machine that facilitates the transportation of heavy loads from one place to another. Its general purpose is to carry loads. We can say that the loads that are too heavy for people to lift physiologically are entrusted to this stacker because the weight we mentioned can reach up to 40 tons.

Let's take a short trip to the 1800s, which we mentioned a few lines above. Forklifts were first used to carry loads with the help of chains. Put aside benefiting from the blessings of technology, that is, the years when there was no light of hope for the existence of technology… Despite these limited opportunities, human beings searched for solutions in order to “find their own remedy” and searched for ways to carry loads with the help of chains. In the following periods, things developed a little more in the 20th century. Now, loads started to be carried with machines resembling cranes mounted on wooden platforms. Then the concept of technology emerged and the forklift was crowned with electric motors and batteries. A big step was taken with the production of the first forklifts with driver and counterbalance weight in 1917, and these steps have survived to the present day when it comes to forklifts with elevators and forklifts with wheels. Now… Today, it continues to exist in our lives as one of the most important construction machines.
